Henry Lindfield of Brighton becomes the first person to be killed by a car on a public road when his electric vehicle runs away on a hill and hits a tree.

Invention:

PE lessons were called ‘drill’ and usually took place in the playground. The children didn’t get changed for PE and the lessons involved lots of jogging on the spot, marching, and stretching.

 

 

Victorian fact:

Marie and Pierre Curie discover a radioactive substance called radium.  For many years it was used in luminous paint until it was learned that it could cause radiation poisoning and hurt or even kill people.

Queen Victoria's age and reign:

Queen Victoria was 79 years old on the 24th May and had been Queen for 61 years.
