Arthur Conan Doyle publishes the first ever Sherlock Holmes detective story in the Times newspaper.

Invention:

If you were poor and you won some money in Victorian times you still wouldn’t want to go in the posh train carriages.  They were only for people who were born in the upper classes to start with and they would be very rude to you!

 

 

Victorian fact:

The first ever electric tramway opens in Leeds, to replace the original horse drawn trams that were first used on the tramway.

Queen Victoria's age and reign:

Queen Victoria was 72 years old on the 24th May and had been Queen for 54 years.
