A policeman earned £1.07 a week, which was 1 pound, 1 shilling and 6 pence in Victorian money.

How much people did people earn?

The Suez canal is opened between Europe and Asia.  It shortens the journey that ships have to take between the two continents by many weeks and has a dramatic effect on world trade.

Invention:

Victorian parents believed that children should be seen, not heard.

 

Victorian fact:

John Wesley Hyatt patents celluloid, in Albany, New York. It would go on to be used in photograph and movie production.
