How much people did people earn?

'Big Ben' is put into place in Westminster in London.  Many people still think it refers to the name of the tower, but it is in fact the name of the 13 ton bell inside it.

Invention:

In Victorian times the population of Great Britain rose from 13.897 million in 1831 to 32.528 million in 1901.

Oil is drilled for the first time, with the opening of 'Drake's well' in Pennsylvania, USA.
