A housekeeper earned 57p a week, or 11 shillings and 5 pence in Victorian money.

How much did people earn?

The Great Western Railway from Bristol to London was completed offering a journey of only four hours, and the first ever census was held, which told the government about the amount of people in the country, their housing conditions and their professions.

Invention:

Many people worked on the land in Victorian times, growing fruit and vegetables and looking after animals.  After thius, the most common job was working as a servant.

Samuel Slocum invented the world's first paper stapler.
